Trail Advocacy

IMBASpeak. Build. Respect. Ride. These are words that the No Brakes Racing Team believes in. This is why we support not just racing but our trails in the local area and throughout the country. And, we do this by giving back though trail advocacy efforts. No Brakes team members are involved in working with forest rangers, political leaders and the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) to encourage trail access. And many of the crew are getting out there and being involved in trail building, trail maintenance and trail clean up days.

We do this for our love of riding but we also know that the only way to keep trails open and to see new trails built is by working togther. Not just with MTB riders but with all trail users - hikers, horseback riders, motorcycle riders since many of us participate in these sports too!

We believe in that and that is why our team is also a strong supporter of the IMBA rules of the trail, courtesy of the IMBA Web Site.

1. Ride On Open Trails Only.
2. Leave No Trace.
3. Control Your Bicycle!
4. Always Yield Trail.
5. Never Scare Animals.
6. Plan Ahead.

The Arizona Gravity Riders Organization is a group that is just being formed in early 2008. The group is dedicated to responsibly opening and maintaining freeride trails in Arizona.

The mission of the Arizona Gravity Riders Organization is to promote rider education, trail advocacy, and recreational opportunities specific to the gravity community in Arizona. The gravity rider community includes downhillers, freeriders, all-mountain riders, and dirt jumpers of all ages. The organization will provide a united voice for the gravity rider community to reach out communicate, and work with park and land managers.

Initial plans of the Arizona Gravity Riders Organization are beginning with clean up days and working with the rangers at the NRA pit which is a favorite of free riders and dirt jumpers in Phoenix.

Finally, the group is working to build relationships with land managers at other favorite areas in Phoenix such as South Mountain and in Tuschon at Mt. Lemmon to designate freeride and downhill trails. There are plans to also work with the Tonto National Forest for building freeride trails.

The Black Canyon Trail

BCT MapThe Black Canyon Trail is a world-class multi-user trail system under development in the Bradshaw Mountain foothills of central Arizona. These historic trails have been used since prehistoric Native Americans, and since the 1600s for the movement of livestock and people. The Black Canyon Trail Colaition was formed to promote and facilitate the creation and use of the Black Canyon Trail system. The purpose is to enhance the quality of life for trail users by providing a world-class trail experience in a natural desert mountain setting.

And, many of the No Brakes crew is proud to say they've been involved in trail building and trail leadership along with the Black Canyon Trail Coalition and IMBA.
